Who Is the St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund?
- Founded in 2007 by Dr. John McElligott, Dave Nemo (of XM Radio / Road Dog Trucking), and Michael Burns.
- A 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Knoxville, TN, with a nationwide reach.
- Their mission: help over-the-road semi-truck drivers and their families when an illness or injury (within the past year) takes a driver off the road. Also, they provide health and wellness programs aimed at preventing illness.
What They Do: Real, Meaningful Support
SCF operates in two main areas:
Emergency & Financial Relief
When a driver is ill or hurt and can’t work, SCF helps with essential living expenses — things like rent or mortgage, utilities, vehicle payments, insurance. These aren’t just numbers; they’re the difference between keeping a home or losing everything. Important note: SCF doesn’t usually pay medical bills. Instead, they help with household expenses and related needs.
Health & Wellness & Preventative Programs
To reduce the number of emergencies in the first place, SCF offers programs like:
- Diabetes prevention
- Tobacco/nicotine cessation (like “Rigs Without Cigs”)
- At-home cancer screenings
- Free or low-cost vaccines for diseases like flu, shingles, pneumonia, etc.

- Limited access to healthcare, nutritious food, physical activity.
